Category: Interview | Sunday 11 April 2010

Could you introduce yourself in a few words for the readers who don’t you know yet?

My name is Felix Bernhardt. I’m 24 years old and I’m producing “driving minimal techno” for clubs respectively for dancefloor.

How was your passion for electronic music born?

At an early age I was fascinated of techno music when I was present at some techno parties. This music has deeply impressed me that I decided to compose it.

Where do you find your inspiration?

Really everywhere. But mostly at long club-party-nights inspired by the crowd.

In your creative process, what are you influenced by?

I’m influenced at most by my “Machine-drums- beats” being very important to me when I’m composing and producing my music.

Felix BernhardtHow do you describe your sound? What is your “personal touch”?

My sound is easily to describe because I’m trying to produce exactly this sound what makes people dancing and moving at the club. I think that every listener can perceive my personal touch at his own way.

In general, how do you approach music and its universe?

Firstly some tones are in my head, sometimes even a melody. Then at my favourite “DAW FL STUDIO”, I’m starting to play easily tones or the melody which were born in my head. Instantly they are pressing out and a new track is created

You are very much involved in your role as producer because you feed samples compilations of Minimal sounds. Can you tell us more about this project?

The “samples library” has been created on the side of my productions for years. Therefore, I have already created many “loops” and “one-shot-samples”, what I’m naturally using for my own production, too.

Have you got some other projects like that in preparation? Another volume or a different style of sounds?

Of course I’m running other projects but it’s still too early to give any information about. These projects need a lot of time and I’m not able to give exact release date now. But when I will have finished my new projects I’m going to post them at MySpace or Facebook.

You have already produced a lot of releases on vinyl and digital on several German labels. Now, you are on the French label, Signelatik Records, with your last EP, The Wireless Beat. How did this happen?

Some happened, that the chief of Signelatik Records has inquired me by e-mail to send him a demo.

Talking about your last EP, let’s get a bit more into that. For composition, what equipment do you use? Hardware, software, both? Which model or which version?

I use everything. (laugh)

Germany in general, Berlin in particular, is a country where electronic music has always had a strong echo and a scene with worldwide influence. How do you explain this?

I think that’s very simple, because in Germany the techno-culture is incredibly kind. Here, in Germany everyone is welcome so that everybody likes to come back again for having party.

Felix BernhardtHow do you live this phenomenon as a German? Does it open doors more easily, too?

Till now, I have not profited because of my German nationality and I don’t think that it is an advantage, because we have a lot of German producers.

Which are your projects for the future?

At this time I’m hard working and this year I will produce and publish several new music tracks and samples. The next vinyl is waiting in the wings and will be released at my home label “AfuLab” in April. Who wants to be up to date concerning my music can visit my MySpace or my Facebook.

Would you like to collaborate with someone?

In any case, if the “right” person comes I would like to collaborate with.

Do you have a final word to the readers?

“Have fun with my music and we seeing us soon.”

Thanks for this interview and your time.

Not at all, I have to thank you!
